Meet Theresa

Theresa Beran Kulat, Esq.
Have we met in real life? If so, you know that these words represent a fraction of who I am. If you have a particular need, you will read this through that lens. Welcome to my website. May you learn something and be inspired.
I have lived a lot of years – more than I ever expected. Raised Catholic, I became a student of metaphysics very early age (13) and have been integrating my inner spiritual self with the outer world for decades.
In 2000, I met Stu Webb, who “birthed” Collaborative Law in the 1990s at an International Alliance of Holistic Lawyers Conference. Working with my spiritual director at the time, I was searching for a way to integrate my spiritual life (I led retreats and did astrology readings) with my legal training (At that time, I represented units of local government). At that conference, I met my people. I could feel how my commitment to a better world could actually be played out in the world. These people were bringing new ways to practice law into reality.
In 2002, my then husband and I used Collaborative Law to end our marriage. We were the first couple to do this in Illinois. In October of that year, I took the first training offered in Illinois and the rest is history. I opened my compassionate family law practice where I only did mediation, Collaborative Law and cases where people wanted to settle. Eventually, I added services like prenuptial and post-nuptial agreements. I also started coaching people and couples.
Along the way, I raised two fine young men. I spend most of my free time taking classes, seminars and retreats in personal growth and transformation. Playtime includes singing in community groups, swing dancing and yoga. I’ve done formal studies in astrology and sacred sexuality. All these aspects of myself come together to support you in your transformation. I love humans even the messy ones. Families bring out all sorts of stuff. We love each other. We do our best. Sometimes the best isn’t good enough and we need to keep loving through the turmoil. Reach out if you’d like to know more.
